In recent years, the gaming industry has been split between servicing two different groups: core gamers and casual players. One side is more dedicated to gaming; the other is much larger and could potentially boost sales exponentially if tapped. But it sounds like one of Ubisoft’s newest IPs, For Honor, will be bypassing those potential boosts in order to focus on the more dedicated fans.
Rather than aiming for mass appeal like they do with some of their other series, Ubisoft’s upcoming swordplay title has been described by CFO Alain Martinez as “more of a core game, less mass market.” It may not be a huge seller, but hopefully the combination of samurai, knights, and Vikings will still prove to be a solid title that sees success among their target, hardcore audience.
For Honor will be one of five big games from Ubisoft released during the 2016-2017 fiscal year, but we have yet to receive a hard release date for its launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. What do you think of For Honor not being intended for mass market? Let us know in the comments below!
