Cereza herself. On April 1st, an 8-bit version of SEGA and Platinum Games’ excellent beat em’ up series Bayonetta appeared on Valve’s Steam service for PC, as well as on a page on their Japanese website. The game appears to be fully functional, albeit much more simple than the over-the-top madness that we’ve all come to expect from the Bayonetta series. It only uses two commands: jump and shoot. What is interesting about the release, however, is not the game itself, but the story told by its achievements.

A few astute gamers have discovered that the achievements all point toward a specific page on SEGA’s website. When visited, one is greeted by a timer leading up to April 11th.

What could this announcement be for? At E3 last year, Platinum Director Hideki Kamiya said that he’d love to create a third entry in the series. Could that be what this countdown is teasing? And what platform will it be for? Considering that Nintendo aided in publishing Bayonetta 2, does that mean that we will being seeing a Bayonetta 3 release on the Switch? Gosh, I hope so. Perhaps a Steam game is possible as well, considering the 8-bit game’s release.

Only time will tell, but for now feel free to sound off in the comments and let us know what your hopes, dreams, and expectations are for the April 11th reveal.
