It was previously hinted that the Wolf Link Amiibo will do more than unlock the Cave of Shadows challenge in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, with Nintendo teasing that the figurine will be compatible with the next game in the series in some special form. Now more information has arrived with the Breath of the Wild demo on the E3 show floor, revealing that tapping the Amiibo on the GamePad will bring Link’s iconic lupine form into the new world of Hyrule as a partner character for that game’s Link.

Summoned through the Sheikah Slate, Wolf Link
fills the void of the conventional partner character and accompanies the new Link, attacking enemies and sniffing out items on the field among other uses. His total health in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will reflect the remaining number of hearts saved into the figurine after clearing the Cave of Shadows. Should he faint in battle, the player will have to wait one day in real time before summoning him again. This is all on top of the brand new line of Zelda Amiibo revealed for the game earlier today.
