Ever since Pokkén Tournament launched on Wii U in March, fans have been wondering whether or not the game would be getting DLC. The game’s developers stated before the game’s launch that it wouldn’t be getting any DLC, but now there are hints that it could be getting some sort of new content. Reddit user BananaMuffinFrenzy has discovered that the files for the game’s recent 1.3 update contain references to fan-favorite Pokémon Scizor, Empoleon, and Darkrai; however, none of them are in the game in any way, supporting the idea of some kind of new content.

The files “evt_sphit_Scizor,” “btlseq_en.drp\evt_212_shot_link_hit,” “btlseq_en.drp\evt_212_zangeki_shk0_3,” and “btlseq_en.drp\evt_212_zangeki_shk1_1” refer to Scizor, whose Pokédex number is 212. The file “btlseq_en.drp\evt_395_iwakudaki_hit” refers to Empoleon; Empoleon’s Pokédex number is 395, and “iwakudaki” is the Japanese name for the move Rock Smash (which Empoleon can learn). Finally, the files that refer to Darkrai are “btlseq_en.drp\evt_491_darkhole_throw_catch,” “btlseq_en.drp\evt_491_darkpulse_hit,” “btlseq_en.drp\evt_491_darkpulse_hold_hit,” and “btlseq_en.drp\evt_491_exATK_hit.” Darkrai’s Pokédex number is 491, “darkhole” is the Japanese name for Darkrai’s signature move Dark Void, and Dark Pulse is another move that the Pokémon can learn.

Since none of these Pokémon are currently in Pokkén Tournament, that suggests that they could be coming to the game as DLC. Also, since many of these file names refer to various move names, that could suggest that these will all be new playable fighters.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Scizor, Empoleon, and Darkrai in Pokkén? Sound off in the comments!

On one side, my love of the Nintendo 64 and my countless hours spent perfecting the first few levels of Super Mario 64 (I was never good enough to get past those...maybe if they release it for the Wii U eShop someday...) resulted in my love for everything Nintendo; meanwhile, I also owned an original PlayStation, which has resulted in me currently owning a PS3 and PS4 for a few Sony exclusives and third-party titles.
