Splatfests were an integral part of the original Splatoon, and they’re returning with the upcoming sequel! Players pick between one of two opposing themes and spend the day battling the opposing team’s members to try and settle age-old questions like Cats vs. Dogs or Autobots vs. Decepticons (that was a great one). Today’s Splatoon 2 Direct gave us a brief summary of these events, as well as a surprising announcement: the first Splatfest will take place on July 15th, almost a full week before the game is actually available in stores.
It turns out that anyone who wants to join in on the fun of the Splatfests can do so, as the Splatoon 2 “Splatfest World Premiere” will be accessible to all Switch owners via the game’s free demo. From 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM PST on Saturday, July 15th, you can join in on the fun of the very first high-stakes competition, as the Inklings of Inkopolis battle it out to determine which is better: cake or ice cream.
Alongside this major announcement, we also got some other info relating to these events. With Callie and Marie out of the spotlight, Splatfests will now be hosted by the game’s new diva pair: Pearl and Marina—the latter of which, interestingly enough, appears to be an Octarian. Just like their predecessors, they’ll be putting on a live show in the game’s hub during Splatfests for all to enjoy. Additionally, the Direct stated that we can expect two full years of Splatfests with Splatoon 2, twice as long as they lasted for the original title.
Will you be participating in Splatfests again with this game? Are you planning to join the very first, pre-launch battle? Or will you be sitting these out? And what do you think of our new Splatoon 2 hosts? Let us know your thoughts on all this in the comments!
