Insomniac’s take on Marvel’s Spider-Man has been a massive success in its first few weeks on PlayStation 4. The web-slinging adventure launched to impressive review scores and record-setting sales numbers, beating out even God of War as PlayStation 4’s fastest-selling exclusive. If Marvel has their way, this is just the beginning of much grander plans.
Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar has compared Spider-Man to the first Iron Man film in terms of its importance to the industry, and Marvel executive creative director Bill Rosemann recently elaborated on that sentiment. Just as Iron Man opened the door to a vast universe of popular films, Rosemann sees the new Spider-Man game not just as a fantastic standalone adventure, but as the first of many high-quality Marvel-based games.
That’s a pretty lofty goal to reach for, but Insomniac Games has Marvel off to a great start. If they can achieve even a fraction of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has in the past decade, we’re in for some amazing games.

Our Verdict
One of my fave parts of this video is when @bryanintihar talks about how Marvel’s Spider-Man is intended as “the Iron Man of Marvel video games,” which is exactly how we view it. As with that first MCU hit, #SpiderManPS4 kicks off a new era for Marvel console games. #BeGreater https://t.co/U1eHdZEmoe
