One of the most commonly-requested characters for Super Smash Bros. is Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Although this request has never been fulfilled, Geno did make it in to Smash for 3DS and Wii U as a Mii Fighter costume. However, as it turns out, Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai actually wanted Geno to be a playable fighter in Brawl, and he again considered Geno for the latest iteration of Smash.
Sakurai revealed this intriguing news in a recent interview with Japanese publication Nintendo Dream. He also acknowledged that Geno is extremely popular, especially among older characters. It’s unclear why Geno didn’t make the final cut in either iteration of the franchise, but perhaps there’s hope for him to join the fight in the next game.
