As is always the case with rumors—especially those surrounding Super Smash Bros.—don’t get your hopes up too much. With that warning out of the way, let’s dig in.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and for Nintendo 3DS is likely going to have a huge presence at E3, but while we wait for more official news, four images of the games’ character select screen have mysteriously surfaced on the web. The pictures don’t show any new characters, but they do show off a lot of assets we haven’t yet seen, as well as a mysterious red dot in one of the far corners.

These pictures come from a 4chan post that has
since been deleted, so for the time being we no longer have access to any details about the leaker’s credibility. But given a few minutes of examination, I can’t make a strong case against them. The only major detail that I’m still questioning is that this roster shows 50 playable character slots, which is much higher than I would expect.

We’re still trying to investigate these pictures further, so stay tuned to Gamnesia to see if anything new comes up.

EDIT: Sorry guys, I counted the roster spaces wrong. This roster shows 50 playable character spaces, plus one “Random” tile like Brawl‘s.

Our Verdict

Colin McIsaac
I first played Donkey Kong Country before even turning three years old, and have since grown into an avid gamer and passionate Nintendo fan. I started working at Zelda Informer in August 2012, and helped found Gamnesia, which launched on February 1, 2013. Outside of the journalism game, I'm an invested musician who loves arranging music from video games and other media. If you care to follow my endeavors, you can check out my channel here: I was rummaging through some things a while back and found my first grade report card. My teacher said, "Oddly enough, Colin doesn't like to write unless it's about computers or computer-type games. In his journal he likes to write about what level he is on in 'Mario Land,' but he doesn't often write about much else." I was pretty amused, given where I am today. Also I have a dog, and he's a pretty cool guy. I don't care for elephants much. I suppose they're okay. You've read plenty now; carry on.
