Bandai Namco Entertainment launched Pokkén Tournament in Japanese arcades last Summer, and the popular Pokémon/Tekken hybrid is slated to launch worldwide on Wii U on March 18th. With the game now headed to its second platform, some are holding out hope that it will launch on 3DS as well, but it doesn’t sound like that’s likely to happen.
Speaking with GameSpot,
Pokkén Tournament producers Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino explained why a handheld version is unlikely. Hoshino revealed that it’s “definitely a challenge” to get the game running on Wii U, which makes a graphically-similar 3DS port virtually impossible. Meanwhile, Harada pointed to financial issues, joking “Programmer does not need technology. Programmer needs budget.” Sorry, 3DS owners. It looks like you’ll need a Wii U if you want to play Pokkén Tournament.
