In an interview with GameCentral, Hideki Kamiya, the legendary Platinum Games director who created titles like The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta, Okami, and Devil May Cry, said that he’s put some serious thought into making sequels for some of his biggest games. The interview was mainly about Scalebound, an action-adventure title by Platinum that’s set to release for the Xbox One in 2017. However, when Bayonetta was mentioned as a part of the Scalebound conversation, Kamiya nonchalantly mentioned the fact that he would love to make another sequel for the game, as well as for Okami, another fan-favorite title.

The discussion started off with a question about unwanted changes in game sequels. This led the representative from GameCentral to mention
Bayonetta, which prompted the following conversation between them:

GameCentral: “…I preferred Bayonetta’s first haircut.”

PR woman: [laughs]

Kamiya: “Then we will take that into account when we design her haircut when we start doing 3, if we ever make 3.”

(The room is suddenly filled with gasps of shock, not just from us and the UK PR but also the other Microsoft and Platinum Games people.)

GameCentral: “Wha… what?! You can’t tease me like that!”

(Widespread laughter)

GameCentral: “Are you thinking of doing 3?”

Kamiya: “Of course we want to make 3.”

GameCentral: [meekly] “OK.”

Kamiya: “Why should it end at 2?”

GameCentral: “I don’t think it should end at 2! Have you spoken to any publishers about this?”

Kamiya: “No, but I’ve spent a lot of time thinking in my head what that game would be. I’ve got ideas in my head for Okami 2 as well.”

Microsoft PR woman: “What?!”

(More shocked laughter from everyone.)

Platinum PR woman: “I didn’t know this!”

GameCentral: “What are you doing, teasing us like this!”

Kamiya: “We’ve got other Scalebounds in our heads too.”

GameCentral: “Now you’ve said that, Platinum better not go bust before you make all those!”

Kamiya: [laughs] “Exactly. We’re not allowed to go out of business.”

Of course, the fact that Kamiya is seriously considering making sequels for both games doesn’t necessarily mean that these sequels will be made anytime soon. We can remain hopeful that we’ll be seeing updates about
Bayonetta 3 or Okami 2 from Platinum Games in the near future.
