Mojang recently announced that Minecraft is coming to Wii U. If you keep up with news in the video game industry, you probably know that Microsoft paid billions for the rights to Minecraft, which means it’s now a first-party Microsoft IP that will be published on a Nintendo console. With this in mind, a Twitter follower of Xbox head Phil Spencer asked if we could ever see the reverse happen. Could a Nintendo game come to an Xbox console? In response, Spencer simply said “I’d be happy to see that.”
Spencer has praised Nintendo in the past for their strong first-party IP, so it shouldn’t be surprising that he’d love to see their games on Xbox. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen or even that it’s plausible. Nintendo has no intention of becoming a third-party developer, and they’re very cautious with their IP.
