Wii U and PlayStation Vita have both been having a pretty heartbreaking time on the market since their respective launches. In eighteen months, Wii U is barely pushing six million units sold, while PlayStation Vita has sold little more than eight million units in two whole years.

For a while, Vita was selling much faster than Nintendo’s home console, but the gap has been narrowing—enough for Michael Pachter, an analyst for Wedbush Securities, to believe that Wii U will win the race to earn the second-to-last-place spot for this gaming generation.

In an interview with GamingBolt, Pachter said, “I think Wii U has more compelling content than the Vita,” and when he was then asked if he thought the Wii U would sell more units than the Vita in the end, he replied with a simple, “Yes.” He later explained that he thinks Nintendo can sell 3–5 million units per year for some time to come, but never elaborated on his expectations for PlayStation Vita.

At this point in their life cycles, I think this was a pretty easy call to make, and a nice reminder to Nintendo fans that Pachter isn’t the biased demon he’s often made out to be.

Our Verdict

Colin McIsaac
I first played Donkey Kong Country before even turning three years old, and have since grown into an avid gamer and passionate Nintendo fan. I started working at Zelda Informer in August 2012, and helped found Gamnesia, which launched on February 1, 2013. Outside of the journalism game, I'm an invested musician who loves arranging music from video games and other media. If you care to follow my endeavors, you can check out my channel here: http://youtube.com/user/pokemoneinstein I was rummaging through some things a while back and found my first grade report card. My teacher said, "Oddly enough, Colin doesn't like to write unless it's about computers or computer-type games. In his journal he likes to write about what level he is on in 'Mario Land,' but he doesn't often write about much else." I was pretty amused, given where I am today. Also I have a dog, and he's a pretty cool guy. I don't care for elephants much. I suppose they're okay. You've read plenty now; carry on.
