It looks like Nintendo has failed to retain the trademark for “Virtual Console,” the online collection of classic games available on Nintendo consoles. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, registration of the trademark has been cancelled (as of January 9) “because registrant did not file an acceptable declaration under Section 8.” We’re not sure if this is just a simple case of some paper work needing to be filed, or if Nintendo actually intends to drop the Virtual Console name, but we’ll be keeping our eyes on the situation to see if anything develops.
