In the face of today’s release of Medli for Hyrule Warriors Legends, it appears as though Nintendo’s trademark for Hyrule Warriors has been abandoned. Though it has been abandoned since April 22, the filing was updated only yesterday. The trademark application was first suspended in March 2015 based on a failure to provide evidence of a trademark registration in Japan. A notice was later sent in October, to which Nintendo had five months to respond. This did not happen, and thus the trademark was declared abandoned. The Hyrule Warriors trademark is also abandoned in Europe and Japan, though both of these happened at the end of last year. It’s unclear whether Nintendo meant to let this happen or if it is simply an act of forgetfulness much like Sony did with Bloodborne and The Last Guardian.
