One of the key features of Nintendo Switch is the HD rumble effect found in the Joy-Con and Pro Controllers. It’s a wonderful touch to many games, but for one fan in Australia, it proved to be much more important than just adding a little extra something to the gameplay. Thanks to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Chris Chalms was able to discover a tumor on his hand that otherwise could have gone undetected for many more months.

Chris noticed while playing Nintendo’s racer that he felt a pain in his palm that wasn’t present in any other game or when playing with any other controller. This turned out to be a tumor that was reacting only to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe‘s HD’s unique rumbles. Thankfully, the tumor was eventually determined not to be cancerous, and Chris successfully had it removed. You can check out a video breakdown of the story below, or read Chris’ own account on Reddit.
