Pokémon has been around for over twenty years now, and video games have continued to evolve in the two decades since Red and Blue debuted on Game Boy. As such, Pokémon developer Game Freak has remade classic entries in the series with more modern visuals and features, releasing FireRed and LeafGreen, HeartGold and SoulSilver, and most recently Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Speaking with IGN, Pokémon composer, director, and producer Junichi Masuda indicated that even more remakes could be on the way.
“I think the remakes, like
Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, is still an approach we’re interested in. With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically there had never been a way to bring those Pokémon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn’t get those Pokémon out.” — Junichi Masuda
Could Diamond and Pearl be due for remakes soon, or could the Pokémon series return to Kanto once again? After all, even FireRed and LeafGreen are quite dated mechanically when compared to the modern games.
