Yesterday’s match between four exceptional action RPGs came down to a fairly close race between
Kingdom Hearts 2 and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. When all was said and done, however, the PlayStation 2 classic managed to pull ahead with over 40% of the votes cast, leaving the recent 3DS release at a respectable 2nd place. Still, with Mother 3, Xenoblade Chronicles, and an Elder Scrolls or Dark Souls game coming up quickly as competition in the next round, it’s tough to say if Kingdom Hearts 2 will have much time to enjoy its victory.

Much like the
Pokémon and Fire Emblem brackets before it, today’s batch of competitors pits some of the best entries in a long-running series against one another to determine a single champion to represent the series going forward. Fittingly, we’ve arrived at a group that has been with the RPG genre ever since the beginning: Final Fantasy. Among our representatives is Final Fantasy IV: a medieval story following a knight and his comrades, and one of the earlier FF games to receive a sequel; Final Fantasy VI: the first game in the series with a female protagonist, and often featured at or near the top of “Best RPG” lists; Final Fantasy VII: a game which needs no introduction (and if you believe it does, you’ve probably been living under a rock for the last couple decades); and Final Fantasy X: the PlayStation 2 title starring Tidus, cool aquatic sports, and this masterpiece of vocal work.

To vote, simply use the poll included above, but be quick! Match-ups in this round only last a day and there’s no going back, so once the poll closes, it’s closed for good. Which title will represent the series for the matches to come? Be sure to check back tomorrow to find out, and don’t forget to
visit the tournament’s hub page, where you can find the complete list of contenders, as well as up-to-date standings.

The combatants for the next match-up are:
The World Ends With You, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, Mega Man Battle Network 3, and Digimon World 3.

A reminder to readers and votes: Please be civil with one another. This tournament is for everyone’s enjoyment, and we want it to stay fun for all who choose to be involved, no matter which games they support. Those who attack others in the comments will be temporarily banned and, if they continue to do so, will removed indefinitely. We really do not want to do this, so please keep it rated E (or E10), and thanks for your enthusiasm!
