With the conclusion of both of yesterday’s rounds, our Ultimate RPG Tournament is right on schedule! When it comes to
handheld JPRGs, Golden Sun narrowly edged out Bravely Default by a mere 2%. The Tales bracket was a lot more one-sided, however, with Tales of Symphonia walking away with 59%. Golden Sun is advancing to face off against Persona 4 Golden in Round 2, while Tales of Symphonia will be squaring off against Fallout 3. Now that each Round 2 bracket is half full, it’s time to jump back to the Fire Emblem bracket and find our third Round 2 combatants.

Fire Emblem is a combination of the strategy/RPG genres and may very well be Intelligent Systems’ most well-known franchise. Though the franchise has been around since 1990, it wasn’t released outside of Japan until 2003, after Nintendo included Marth and Roy in Super Smash Bros. Fire Emblem has been noted for its permadeath feature (wherein once a unit dies, it remains dead for the rest of the campaign). We’ve got four representatives from the popular series duking it out today—Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Fire Emblem Awakening, and the most recent title, Fire Emblem Fates. Genealogy is the only one of these titles to never have been officially released in the West, so will it stand a chance against the more modern games? Only your votes will tell!

To vote, simply use the poll included above, but be quick! Match-ups in this round only last a day and there’s no going back, so once the poll closes, it’s closed for good. Which of these
Fire Emblem titles can avoid permadeath? Be sure to check back tomorrow to find out, and don’t forget to visit the tournament’s hub page, where you can find the complete list of contenders, as well as up-to-date standings.

The combatants for the next match-up are:
Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and Phantasy Star Online.

A reminder to readers and votes: Please be civil with one another. This tournament is for everyone’s enjoyment, and we want it to stay fun for all who choose to be involved, no matter which games they support. Those who attack others in the comments will be temporarily banned and, if they continue to do so, will removed indefinitely. We really do not want to do this, so please keep it rated E (or E10), and thanks for your enthusiasm!
