last round of our Ultimate RPG Tournament took a look the beloved Mother franchise, plus Undertale, a recent hit that drew inspiration from an EarthBound Halloween hack. It was actually a fairly heated match, both in polls and in the comments, with the exception of EarthBound Beginnings which only gathering 3% of the votes! Though Undertale took the internet by storm just a year or so ago, it didn’t quite hold up now, as Mother 3 advances to Round 2.

For this round, we’re looking at another well-known RPG franchise, this time from Bandai Namco. Spanning a total of 15 games in the main series (with a 16th coming to Japan next month), the
Tales franchise is well-known for its anime-inspired style. Though the Tales franchise is a heavy-hitter in Japan, it’s been fairly niche in the West, though successes with Tales of Symphonia onward have helped boost its popularity. Tales of Symphonia is often considered to be one of the most popular games in the series—will it hold up to this standard against Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Phantasia, and Tales of the Abyss? Any of these games could take this round, but we won’t know which until you vote for a champion!

To vote, simply use the poll included above, but be quick! Match-ups in this round only last a day and there’s no going back, so once the poll closes, it’s closed for good. Which RPG will live on to tell its Tale? Be sure to check back tomorrow to find out, and don’t forget to
visit the tournament’s hub page, where you can find the complete list of contenders, as well as up-to-date standings.

As you may have noticed, we missed yesterday’s bracket match-up. In an effort to keep things on track, we’re
running the Golden Sun bout simultaneously with this one, so make sure you vote for both!

The combatants for the next match-up are:
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Fire Emblem Awakening, and Fire Emblem Fates.

A reminder to readers and votes: Please be civil with one another. This tournament is for everyone’s enjoyment, and we want it to stay fun for all who choose to be involved, no matter which games they support. Those who attack others in the comments will be temporarily banned and, if they continue to do so, will removed indefinitely. We really do not want to do this, so please keep it rated E (or E10), and thanks for your enthusiasm!
