Last week, Klei Entertainment tweeted out news on Don’t Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition, which will be available in the Nintendo eShop tomorrow, April 12th. With a price tag of $19.99, it’s an affordable investment into many hours of exhilarating wilderness survival gameplay. Even after logging hundreds of hours on my PC version, I’ll be picking up Don’t Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition without a second thought.

Don’t Starve drops you in the middle of a randomly generated map with nothing, and you’ll have to find sticks and grass to craft shelter and rabbit traps. Or perhaps you’ll stumble upon sleeping hounds just begging for you to get too close. Find more supplies and build better items, like a spear or walls, and soon enough you’ll be able to fend for yourself. During the day, players can explore, forage, hunt, and craft. At night, you don’t want to be caught without a campfire. After the first twenty days, winter will start, and if you thought you had the game figured out by Day 20, you’ll be in for a treat. And a long winter.

You’ll unlock new playable characters throughout the game and you’ll meet some supporting cast along the way, like our dearly beloved Chester, who hops around behind you, offering to hold some of your items if your inventory gets just a little too stuffed. Each playable character brings new abilities and mechanics to the game, so try them all out and see who fits your playstyle the best. Here’s some more information from the Nintendo Switch eShop.

In Don’t Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition, you play as Wilson, an intrepid Gentleman Scientist who has been trapped by a demon and transported to a mysterious wilderness world. Enter a bizarre and unexplored world full of strange creatures, dangers, and surprises. Learn to exploit the environment and its inhabitants to escape and find your way back home.

If you’re ready for a new challenge, Reign of Giants expands the entire world of Don’t Starve with new characters, seasons, creatures, biomes, and other challenges to Don’t Starve.

If you’re looking for adventures at sea, Shipwrecked will set you off to explore a mysterious new tropical archipelago that you can explore on both land and sea! Don’t let the tropical breeze lull you into a false sense of security – the world might be different, but it is still equal parts unforgiving and uncompromising.

Do whatever it takes to survive, but most importantly, Don’t Starve!

Don’t Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition will include both the Reign of Giants and Shipwrecked DLC, which will let players get even more bang for their buck as they sail across the waves and hunt down enemies who are just as likely hunting you.
