Mobile developer DeNA is going through some big changes. A few weeks ago, the company dissolved its San Francisco studio, effectively ending its presence in the West. Going forward, the only DeNA games in the West will be the ones co-developed with Nintendo. In releasing their second quarter fiscal results, DeNA announced that they are “Reallocating resources, with a focus on the Nintendo partnership.”
It looks like DeNA will be putting most of their eggs in the Nintendo basket going forward. These plans include releasing Super Mario Run on iOS this holiday season and releasing mobile games based on Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem sometime before the end of the fiscal year on March 31st, 2017. Nintendo and DeNA had originally planned to release five mobile games before the end of the fiscal year, but they’ve scaled that target back in recent months.
