A big part of the popular indie hit Stardew Valley is played by the relationships between characters. Not only is the player able to build intimate friendships with all the characters, but they are also able to marry a selection of them. It doesn’t matter which gender you are, all eligible bachelors are available to be romanced by both genders. In a recent interview with Kotaku, developer Eric Barone (also known as ConcernedApe) let it slip that there is a big chance that he is going to expand the selection of characters players will be able to marry.
Although he made it clear that it isn’t official yet, he is considering Linus or Shane, because those two have more problems than the rest of the cast. He also has Robin in his mind as a possibility, but noted in order to romance her the player would have to break up a family, as she is already married.
His exact words were:
“I think so, yeah. I don’t want to say anything official, but I might even just let the community have a vote because I would be fine with anyone. I pretty much like all the characters; I could come up with events for all of them.
“I think Shane or Linus would be fun. They’re a little different than everyone else. They have more problems, I guess you could say. That would be interesting to work with. In terms of female candidates, let’s see, I don’t know. I kind of like Robin even though she’s already married. I think that might be interesting if people might want to do that, break up the family. I don’t want to necessarily shy away from harsh stuff.” — Eric Barone
