The popular Attack on Titan anime series received a video game adaptation courtesy of Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force back in 2016. The action-packed, Titan-slaying adventure was met with somewhat mixed reviews, but it performed well enough that Koei Tecmo quickly announced a sequel. Attack on Titan 2 launches this month, and the early reviews have started to roll in from Japan.

As usual, Famitsu had four separate editors each rate the game on a 1-10 scale. This time around, all four were in agreement that Attack on Titan 2 deserved a 9/10, giving it a total score of 36/40. By comparison, the first game received two scores of 8 and two of 9 for a total of 34/40. This was notably higher than the average Metacritic score of 74, so it’s possible that Famitsu’s 36 won’t necessarily translate into universal acclaim.

The rest of the Famitsu scores for the week include a strong showing from Kirby Star Allies (35/40) and Metal Gear Survive (34/40). The latter has performed significantly worse on a global scale, with a Metacritic rating of 61.
