With 25 years full of ups and downs and all-arounds behind him, Sonic the Hedgehog still keeps on running to this day, and SEGA is poised to celebrate the Blue Blur’s silver anniversary all year long.

Among the news of
special events and new games comes a surprise announcement from North American comic book publisher Archie Comics, the same one responsible for the ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe comics. The publisher is confirmed to be participating in the festivities with a brand new comic that harkens back to the franchise’s Genesis days of yore.

After the fall of the Death Egg, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose must band together to stop Dr. Eggman once again before he completes his engine of mass destruction — the MEGADRIVE — in the appropriately titled
Sonic: Mega Drive!

The publisher’s official solicitation for the comic is as follows:

Sonic spins into a brand new, Classic-styled, SUPER SPECIAL one-shot “Mega Drive”! Join Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose on a brand new adventure—set after the fall of the Death Egg! The nefarious Dr. Eggman is trying to build a new engine of destruction: the MEGADRIVE, and it’s up to Sonic and his whole crew to stop the mad doctor and save the day! Join Sonic and his friends in this special commemorative issue celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Blue Blur!
