According to David Gibson on Twitter, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, recently released for the 3DS, has boosted sales of the 3DS console. The game was released on eShop and in stores, and is apparently doing very well.
As you can see from the tweet, Nintendo claims that sales of the 3DS console have
quadrupled over the previous week, and that New Leaf has broken sales records for the eShop. Nintendo is also offering a Special Edition 3DSXL with the digital version pre-installed. I can report that several of the Gamnesia staff are already well into the game and discussing axes, sharks, and time travel.
While none of the big three game companies have been doing too well recently, this could be a fresh start for Nintendo. The game was released right before the start of E3, and Nintendo did make some announcements yesterday on their Nintendo Direct about upcoming 3DS games, such as Super Smash Bros.
Could this be a turning point for the 3DS? Are you the mayor of a town yet? Let us know in the comments below.
