Longtime readers of Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog series have waited with bated breath since the start of the year over its fate. Since its 1992 debut, the Sonic comics were defined by its grandiose world-building, a wider array of and focuses on different characters, and memorable storytelling with every passing issue over the years. In January 2017, however, monthly solicits came to an abrupt hiatus, and subscribers were left without any official disclosure regarding upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe issues, as well as the final installment of Sonic: MEGA DRIVE.

After months of silence, word has finally come from the Sonic social media channels yesterday, announcing that SEGA of America’s partnership with Archie Comics has now come to an end.

Archie’s run with the Sonic comics is over, but SEGA has also announced that Sonic will return to comic book pages in some form in the near future. It is also unknown if those still subscribed to Archie Comics for their Sonic the Hedgehog serials will be refunded for the last seven months.

Were you a longtime fan of Archie’s take on Sonic and his world? What were some of your favorite characters and moments from the books? Which artist or writer in particular stuck out the most to you? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Jeffrey is a writer for Gamnesia and The Sonic Stadium, and a pianist obsessed with video game music. Loves all things Nintendo to a fault, and enjoys long walks on the Green Hill Zone. Pretty much Gamnesia's resident Sonic fan, my dude.
