Cartoon Network’s hit show Adventure Time is taking to the sea in its latest video game adventure. The Land of Ooo has been cut off from the rest of the world, and it’s up to Finn, Jake, and friends to set things right. Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion is a 3D open world adventure with an original plot set on the high seas.
Like many other ocean-based games before it, the developers recently revealed that the new
Adventure Time draws inspiration from a Nintendo GameCube masterpiece: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Speaking with Well Played, Adventure Time Associate Producer Orcun Adsoy explained that his team looked to Wind Waker to create their seafaring experience.
“Wind Waker was definitely a solid frame of reference when we were looking at how the boat would function and feel on the open sea. I’d like to tell you more, but the guys at Outright are getting ready to show you the world in a far more interesting way than I could.”
— Orcun Adsoy
Wind Waker has been cited as an inspiration for numerous games (including Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag) since its release over fifteen years ago, and it continues to impact gamers and developers to this day. Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion is slated to launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime this Spring.
