The Pokémon Company and Nintendo are brainstorming a new device to work with Pokémon GO that will make the game safer. For those unfamiliar, the mobile game requires players to walk around and catch Pokémon, which has led to some dangerous scenarios due to players not paying attention to their surroundings. This new device would go a step further than the companion accessory Pokémon GO Plus, which allows players to interact with the game without constantly staring at their phones, but no further details have been released as of yet.

The Pokémon Company President Tsunekazu Ishihara first mentioned the possibility of such a device in an interview with Nikkei:

“To avoid the danger, we also released Pokemon Go Plus, the smartphone-linked wearable device, so that Pokemon Go players do not have to always be looking down at their smartphone screens. Together with Nintendo, we are thinking of developing a new device that can be played more safely.” — Tsunekazu Ishihara

Niantic has already taken several steps to make Pokémon GO safer, such as adding extra warning screens and disabling gameplay at high speeds. How else do you think Pokémon GO could become a safer game? Share your thoughts in the comments!
