Progress, a mobile puzzle game made by indie developer Ludosity, will be getting an unlikely re-release in the next few months; this game will be ported to the original Nintendo Game Boy.
Why? Well, apparently, this all started as a joke; some of the developer’s friends made a Game Boy port of the game for him as a birthday present, and he loved the idea so much that he decided to take it further.
In a recent video by AppSpy at this year’s Nordic Game Show, developer Tim Garbos showed us what they’ve made. Not much has been revealed so far, but we do get a good look of a few puzzles in this video. The original game consisted of very unique puzzles: you would be presented with letters hinting you towards some action to do with your fingers, and you would replicate it onto the screen. One of the simplest of these read “Two fingers”, and the solution was just to place to fingers on the iPad screen. They are trying to replicate this style onto the Game Boy using all of its buttons and functions, even potentially bringing back old accessories like the Game Boy Camera.
Now, instead of hinting you towards what to do on the touchscreen, they’ll hint you towards what to do with the buttons. You will be given prompts such as “Cross”, to which the solution is to draw out a cross with the D-Pad.
You can check out the online version of the game here, and it is also available for download on the iPad.
