Minecraft has been one of the hottest games on the market for years now, and it’s finally coming to Nintendo’s Wii U. The timing of this is a little strange, as Microsoft actually bought out Minecraft developer Mojang last year, making Minecraft a first-party title. This kind of cooperation between competitors opens the doors to all kinds of possibilities, including the chance of other Microsoft games on Wii U or vice versa. On Microsoft Studios’ official announcement page for Minecraft: Wii U Edition, a Microsoft employee named Helen Zbihlyj fielded questions from fans, including the possibility of Amiibo for Minecraft.

Question: This is awesome! Any chance you can bring Shadowrun and Battletech/Mechwarrior to the Wii U as well? And Amiibo for Minecraft and FASA properties would be awesome. Plus Steve and Alex for Smash and Mario Kart 8?

Helen Zbihlyj: I’m only on the Minecraft team so I honestly have no idea about those other games. We do know that there’s a lot of demand for a Minecraft Amiibo- no idea if we’ll get one. As for Alex and Steve making an appearance in other games, the studios that develop those games would need to reach out to us directly about it.

Nintendo recently allowed indie team Yacht Club Games to create their own Shovel Knight Amiibo. Could they reach a similar agreement with Microsoft?
